There is no doubt about the fact that Salman Khan is possibly the biggest superstar of India, nowadays. He has always been a big crowd puller at the box office but with Dabangg in 2010, he catapulted himself to megastardom. At the time of the release, Dabangg became biggest opener ever of Bollywood. And the fastest film to go past Rs 100 crore club, but by the end of its lifetime run the film couldn’t beat the biggest box office grosser at that time, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots.
There is no doubt about the fact that Dabangg was a blockbuster but it wasn’t the biggest Bollywood hit. Salman was second to Aamir. Salman Khan followed Dabangg with Ready and Bodyguard, both of which were blockbusters but still, they couldn’t go past 3 Idiots’ business.
It was finally in 2013 that 3 Idiots was topped at the box office but it was Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express that broke the record and became the top box office grosser, at that time Salman’s biggest hit was Ek Tha Tiger that had earned Rs 198.78 crore.
However, months later, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 topped Chennai Express and became the biggest box office hit. The very next year, Salman finally hit a double century at the box office with Kick, but it wasn’t enough to go past Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3.
The very next year, Salman Khan delivered his first Rs 300 crore grosser in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, but by that time Aamir Kha had already delivered a bigger Rs 300 crore hit in PK. And finally with Tiger Zinda Hai, Salman Khan delivered his biggest box office hit last year but again he fell almost Rs 50 crore short of beating Aamir Khan’s Dangal, which is so far the biggest Bollywood hit.
