Last night, Apple announced a new range of MacBook Pros, which will be sporting four USB Type-C ports. That's two more than what they usually offer on their laptops and when Apple makes such a big move, you know what's coming – you will need dongles to connect traditional USB devices including their latest phone, the iPhone 7.
If you want to connect a pen drive to your phone, you will need to buy a USB 2.0 to USB Type-C dongle, which Apple happens to make. If you are using an iPhone 7 you will need to buy a Lightning – to USB Type-C port. Basically, we're fucked.
Making a move to USB Type C is a step forward but considering the latest iPhone and many other phones dominantly use USB, it will make all our lives harder. There are phones that use USB Type-C connectors; however, they still utilize the traditional duck-faced USB on the other end of the cord. The reason why this can a be a reason for worry is because iTunes is a great tool for managing pictures, music, apps and everything else. Android users use the Android File Transfer program to manage their phones as well.
There is an unforeseeable future where every laptop, phone and other products will start using USB Type-C on their devices. USB Type –C cables have the ability to provide power and transfer data at the same time. It can become the universal port we've all been hoping for. Even the Google Pixel uses a USB Type- C port and it came with a USB to USB Type-C connector and a cord which had USB Type-C ports at both ends. The future looks bright, but we need everyone to follow suit.
At least the Macbook Pro comes with a headphone jack!
