A special court in Jodhpur on Wednesday directed police to register an FIR against cricketer Hardik Pandya for his alleged tweet on Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The court gave the directives following a petition filed by DR Meghwal against him for the same. In the petition, Meghwal has mentioned that on December 26, 2017, Pandya posted a comment on his twitter account insulting Ambedkar and hurt the sentiments of the people of his community. “Which Ambedkar ??? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country,” Pandya had reportedly posted on his twitter timeline.
Meghwal, who claims to be a member of Rashtriya Bhim Sena in Rajasthan’s Jalore district, filed a petition against the cricketer on Tuesday. In his complaint, Meghwal accused Pandya of not only attempting to insult and disregard the Constitution and its architect but also hurting the sentiments of the community he belongs to.
“I learnt about Pandya’s comment through social media in January. It appeared quite derogatory for a figure like Ambedkar and was an attempt to spread hatred and create division in the society,” said Meghwal, who is an advocate by profession, was quoted as saying by TOI.
He said that by such an act, Pandya has committed a serious crime. Terming the act as ‘crass’, Meghwal has demanded adequate and suitable punishment for Pandya.
