What is Aftershave?
So what does aftershave do, and what is aftershave for? Well, aftershave is typically a man’s thing, but it is very similar to women’s perfume or body sprays. Aftershave comes in the form of a scented balm, cream, liquid, gel or lotion, that is generally used after shaving for a soothing fresh feel and smell.
It is also good for tightening the skin, which is a plus for the older generation! Aftershave is also regularly used on a daily basis, just as a woman would use her perfume, to create a long lasting scent for work or play. A lot of men also choose to have two different aftershaves, one for day and one for night. The night time aftershave is often heavier or muskier in scent.
How to Apply Aftershave
So lads, you may think the way you apply your aftershave is a no brainer, shaving and dabbing it on your face, but despite what you might think, there is actually a correct method of application.
- Step 1: Shave as you usually would.
- Step 2: Wait as long as you can after shaving before applying your chosen form of aftershave. The longer you leave it, the less likely it will be that you get the dreaded burning irritation sensation.
- Step 3: Apply your choice of aftershave behind the ears or on the neck (or both). Be sure not to overdo it though, the worst thing that can happen is that your scent will be too overpowering and off putting to those around you.
How to Use Aftershave
What is aftershave used for? It is exactly what it says on the tin, you use aftershave, well, after shaving. If aftershave comes in the form of a balm, cream, lotion or moisturiser is used to calm the skin and so often contains nourishing, antiseptic, thick, creamy ingredients. Aftershave sprays or splashes are mostly used for their scent.
