Dockrell's rearguard fifty lifts Ireland to 271

A century partnership for the opening wicket and a valuable contribution from George Dockrell paved way for Ireland's competitive total of 271 for 9 despite a mid-overs collapse during the second ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah on Thursday (December 7). Paul Stirling (82) and William Porterfield (47) were involved in a 115-run opening stand to provide a strong platform for Ireland. However, a massive slide from overs 21-37 - losing six wickets for 73 runs - left Ireland in danger of being restricted to a below-par total. Dockrell though managed to reverse his team's dwindling stocks with an unbeaten 62 off 48 deliveries as the No. 8 batsman's maiden ODI fifty ensured Afghanistan batsmen had a challenging task.
